When to Call a Pest Control Professional

Not every pest sighting means you need to call a professional. But some situations demand expert help—and the sooner, the better.
When DIY Might Be Enough
Some pests can be managed with simple steps. A single ant trail to a food source can often be resolved by cleaning up, sealing the entry point, and monitoring. One or two spiders indoors usually require nothing more than removal and sealing gaps. Fruit flies are often solved by removing overripe fruit and cleaning drains. In these cases, a methodical approach is usually sufficient.
When to Call a Professional
Rodents are a different matter. Droppings, gnaw marks, or sounds in walls indicate an established presence. Rodents multiply quickly and can cause structural damage. Termites or wood borer demand immediate attention—any sign of wood damage or mud tubes means early treatment could save your structure. Bed bugs rarely respond to DIY; bites, blood spots, or live bugs typically require professional heat treatment.
Recurring infestations are another red flag. If the same pest keeps coming back, there is likely a source you haven't found. German cockroaches breed rapidly and usually need professional baiting and IGR treatments to be brought under control.
What to Expect
A good pest control company will inspect first, identify the pest and extent of the problem, and provide a clear plan and quote. Ask about guarantees, safety for pets and children, and follow-up visits. When in doubt, a free inspection costs nothing—and can prevent a small problem from becoming a major one.
